A song for every heart
For a write-up on World Diabetes Day, a scribe was making calls to diabetologists to make inquiries for certain stories on the subject. One of these phone calls was to a well-known female doctor specialising in diabetic treatment. As the reporter dialled her number in a solemn mood set for interviewing, she broke into laughter on hearing the doctor’s caller tune. ‘Chini kum hai, chini kum hai, thodi thodi tujhme mein hai kum...’ An apt caller tune for a diabetologist!

Of idli, dosa and pasta
A politician who pursued an important money-laundering case and sent two South Indian politicians to jail, was in the city recently. During his speech, he shared an anecdote with the media. The superintendent of Tihar Jail, where the accused are lodged, asked him why he was targeting only South Indian politicians. The cook in the jail was fed up, as they kept asking for idli and dosa.

To this, the politician replied, “Ask your cook to be prepared. Soon he will have an Italian guest, who will ask for pasta.” The crowd had a hearty laugh, as they knew who he was referring to.

So much for family time
With big retail shopping malls opening up branches in the city, it has become a big time-pass for people who are seen spending hours at these malls with their families. Recently, a friend’s wife suggested that they visit a mall since they had not been to one in a long time and the children also liked it. But the friend was reluctant, as he hated standing in long queues to pay bills. To this, his wife said, “Who wants to shop? Let’s go to see the products and learn how to make better consumer choices.”

A hearty laugh for ‘f’all
Recently, the Nationalist Congress Party had organised a meet. Photographers and party activists gathered near the stage as soon as deputy chief minister Ajit Pawar arrived. Amid the chaos, Pawar started his speech and suddenly there was a loud noise, as someone fell down. People started laughing.

Hardly controlling his laughter, Pawar said, “It is not our culture to laugh when someone falls down.” Then, pointing at the NCP leaders in the front row, he said, “What are you all doing? You should have saved the person from falling.” It was only after the programme ended that the people asked who had fallen down.

Ahead of their age
At an informal meeting with reporters, a woman police officer shared her experience with the new generation. The officer, who has a 10-year-old daughter, allowed her to open a Facebook account on the condition that she would share her password with her mother. Once, out of curiosity, the officer checked her daughter’s Facebook account and found that she and her friends gossiped about their maths teacher. In a sweet tone she made her daughter understand that this was wrong. The vexed daughter said, “I would have changed my password, but I know you are in the police and you can hack my account to get access.”
