A constable and four bank recovery agents were allegedly beaten up by BJP leader Prakash Shendge and his men on Thursday.

The agents from Sangli Co-operative Bank had gone to show Shendge’s flat in Worli to a group of bidders as part of an auction survey.

Shendge had defaulted in paying a loan of Rs3.35cr taken from the bank in 1998. By January this year, the cumulative loan amount rose to Rs8.69cr. The bank management obtained an order from the Bombay high court and Assistant Registrar of Co-operative Society to attach Shendge’s property to recover the loan amount.
When the agents, the bidders, and a constable, reached the building at Sir Pochkhanwala Road, 50 to 60 men, allegedly Shendge’s loyalists, beat them up.

“The police arrested seven of the attackers,” said senior inspector Bharat Worlikar from Worli police station. They have been booked for rioting, unlawful assembly and assault on a public servant.
Shendge termed it a political conspiracy. “The agents visited my Worli flat without an appointment and in my absence. When they abused me, my political workers beat them up.”
