The director of Phaltan-based Nimbkar Agricultural Research Institute (Nari), Anil Rajvanshi, has expressed doubts whether the Jan Lokpal Bill would be able to curb corruption in the country. “What we need is proper implementation of the existing laws, rather than making new ones, to deal with corruption,” he maintained.

Rajvanshi was addressing a gathering during the four-day lecture series on corruption and corporate sustainability at the Indian Law Society (ILS) auditorium on Tuesday evening, organised by the Indian Institute of Cost and Management Studies and Research (IndSearch).

Rajvanshi spoke on ‘Socio-biological basis of corruption: relevance to corporate world.’ “I have doubts whether the Jan Lokpal Bill will enable the country to curb the rate of corruption. The existing laws in the country are sufficient to control the corruption rate,” he said.

According to him, most of the problems that the country is facing are due to  non-governance. On the responsibilities of the corporates towards society, Rajvanshi urged them to not chase numbers but work for society as they have the wherewithal to do so.

“About 60% of the rural population of the country still lives without proper amenities like electricity and clean drinking water. Corporate companies have the power and resources to reduce corruption and help in sustainable development,” he said.
