The Pune police crime branch (unit IV) on Thursday arrested four suspects in the Rohan Sudhakar Kadam murder case. Rohan was found murdered near the Mali Training Institute, near a compound wall of the University of Pune (UoP) on February 5.

The suspects have been identified as Pramod Tejraj Pillai (36), Lawrence alias Mogya Moses Joseph (19), Rohit Balkrushna Kapse (23) and Nannath alias Sonya Jadhav (19), all residents of Sangamwadi.

Anant Shinde, additional commissioner of police (crime), said that Pramod runs a restaurant, Cafe Seven, in Pune cantonment area.
“Rohan used to visit the cafe with his friends and used to harass him by not paying the bills. When Pramod objected, Rohan tried to extort Rs2 lakh from him by saying that he would not harass him if he gives the money. Irked over this, Pramod along with the others hatched a conspiracy to kill Rohan. They took him in an Omni car and strangulated him to death and disposed of his body near the Mali Training Institute,” Shinde said.

Rohan’s mother lodged a missing-person complaint with the Yerawada police station and told police that he had received a call from his friends and had left with them.

On February 5, the Chatuhshrungi police found a body of a youth near the UoP but could not establish the identity. They appealed through newspapers and gave a description of the deceased. After reading the newspaper, Rohan’s relatives approached the Chatushrungi police station and identified the body.
