The Bandra-Worli Sea Link is yet to decongest traffic in the city. Around 200 senior citizens along with a few Mahila mandals came out on the street on Friday and staged a rasta roko (road blockade) in protest of the increasing traffic woes after the sea link was opened in July 5.

They blocked the by-lane that connects Arun Kumar Vaidya Marg to KC Marg for two hours. They said that the traffic which is diverted to Arun Kumar Vaidya Marg and onto KC Marg leading to the sea link is creating troubles for them.

“Our by-lane is misused and there’s heavy traffic after the sea link was opened,” said Vijaya Vaidya, 77, senior citizen from Bandra.  “We have to wait for an hour just to cross the road. The honking is deafening,” added Vijaylakshmi Korba, 63.

Members of General Arun Kumar Vaidya Nagar Rahawasi Sangh had met Sanjay Barve, additional commissioner of police (traffic) to solve the problem, but in vain. “Traffic will be segregated immediately and minimum traffic will go through the by-lane,” said Madan Kumbhar, senior inspector of police (traffic), Bandra, when contacted.
