A senior citizen and her daughter-in-law were robbed of gold ornaments and a mobile phone collectively worth Rs11.50 lakh by their domestic help and his two aides from their residence in Mumbai, police said today.

A manhunt has been launched for the domestic servant, identified only as Imran, and his two aides and special teams have been formed to trace them, they said.

The victim, Khatija Faruki (65), stays in the Raheja Classic building in suburban Andheri with her realty developer son Salim, daughter-in-law and eight-year-old grand son.

On Wednesday evening, Faruki was at home with her daughter-in-law when Imran, who was employed recently, came and told the elderly woman that his two friends were looking for jobs.

When Faruki told him her family does not need any more servants, Imran left the house only to return with his friends who were waiting downstairs, a police officer said.

Brandishing knives, Imran and his two aides barged into the house and threatened Faruki and her daughter-in-law of dire consequences if they raised their voice, police said.

The trio fled with gold ornaments and a mobile phone collectively worth Rs11.50 lakh, police said.

"We have registered a case of robbery and assault and are conducting enquiries," said the official.
