The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has warned the city’s cattle shed owners against dumping dung in the storm water drains. The civic body said they would penalise those caught flouting the order.

As per a circular issued by additional municipal commissioner RA Rajeev,  action would be taken against shed owners under the cleanliness bye laws of the BMC. Under the bye laws, offenders will be penalised Rs20,000 per day. “There is a process to dispose the dung, but most cattle shed owners are in a hurry to dispose it off as they don’t have space to keep it. In the process, they dump the dung in the nullah,” said Rajeev.

The BMC has got into overdrive mode after mayor Shraddha Jadhav, who on Friday visited cleaning works of nullahs, came across shed owners dumping dung in the nullahs. She immediately asked to Rajeev to take action against the offenders.
