Unhealthy living conditions claimed the lives of two kids of a family who died of malaria in Bhayander on Sunday morning. Their mother too is in the hospital with malaria symptoms.

Roshan Das, 35, a daily wager, lives in the Lal Bahadur Shastri Nagar slums behind the Bhayander police station with his wife and two sons — Pawan, 2, and Suraj, 6. Last week, the entire family fell ill with symptoms of malaria. Sheela, Ashok’s wife, was the first to be admitted at Shradhha Nursing Home in the area.

On Saturday, the condition of both the sons became critical as they were finding it difficult to breathe. By evening, when their condition deteriorated, Das took them to Kasturi Hospital, where the on-duty doctor, Vijay Punnesa, advised him to take Pawan to Bhakti Vedant Hospital as his condition was worse. Suraj was being looked after at Kasturi Hospital.

Pawan died within minutes of being admitted to Bhakti Vedant Hospital. Das, shocked to hear about his son’s death, was in for a ruder one when he was informed that his elder son Suraj had also died. Dr Punnesa said that both the kids had severe malaria when they were brought to the hospital.

Das is in a state of shock as both his sons died in just an hour, and his wife too is suffering from the same disease. The boys were cremated in Bhayander on Sunday afternoon.
Das has alleged that the doctors at Kasturi Hospital had administered the kids a wrong dose, due to which they died within an hour. However, no police complaint has been registered in this regard.
