DD to telecast Commonwealth Games

The 2006 Melbourne Games will have 16 events, including athletics, swimming, hockey and badminton. The opening and closing ceremonies will be at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.

NEW DELHI: Prasar Bharti has bagged the telecast rights for the Commonwealth Games in Melbourne next year from March 15 to 26.
    
The event will be telecast live on Doordarshan's terrestrial network, DD National and the satellite channel DD Sports.
    
All India Radio will broadcast running commentaries of important matches and events, Prasar Bharti said.

More than 4,500 sportspersons from 72 countries, including India, would take part i the 12-day sporting extravaganza.
