Gizmodo and Wired publish reports that say the Bitcoin creator is an Australian IT and security consultant.
A few hours after Gizmodo and Wired released reports about who the true Bitcoin creator “Satoshi Nakamoto” truly is, Australian police arrested Craig Wright. Who is Craig Wright you ask? Well little is known about him at this point but reports say that he is an Australian IT and security consultant who describes himself as a senior management executive information security specialist on his LinkedIn page.
He also claims he is an academic at Charles Sturt University who has a number of connections with Australian government institutions and has been involved in cyber security and defence.
Strong doubts were expressed about Craig Wright’s involvement in creating Bitcoin by people who knew him. It is believed that it is all part of an elaborate hoax.
Wired and Gizmo routed out Wright as the creator of Bitcoin based on various emails, blog posts and transcripts of interviews that were gathered.
According to The Guardian, the police raid of Wright’s house was authorized in relation with the Australian Taxation office and was unrelated to the Bitcoin incident.
So at this time it is still uncertain who is operating under the sudo name “Satoshi Nakamoto” although all leads point to the Australian tech entrepreneur.
Craig Wright was allegedly moving to London with his wife Ramona Watts . A neighbour also reported that a huge container arrived around a month ago. He also reported seeing a movers truck around the first week of December.
According to transcripts available to Gizmodo and Wired, Wright is quoted as saying “I did my best to try and hide the fact that I’ve been running Bitcoin since 2009 but I think it’s getting--most--most--by the end of this half the world is going to bloody know.”
The Authenticity of the documents published by Gizmodo and Wired have yet to be verified. It is also unknown whether the transcripts are an accurate representation of the audio in the interview.
If wright is the true creator of Bitcoin then it could have serious implications to the cryptocurrency. Nakamato apparently has around 1.1 million Bitcoins which are valued at $455 million. This is the largest fortune of Bitcoin to anyones name.
