A tight defence along with aggressive counter-attacking moves brought hosts Pune FC a valuable 2-1 win over Mohun Bagan in the 13th round of I-league football at the Shiv Chhatrapati sports complex in Balewadi near here on Tuesday.

Trailing 0-1 in the initial stage of the game, Pune bounced back strongly and an equalizer by substitute Jeje Lalpekhlua (37’) followed by a winning header from Lester Fernandez (56’) were enough to garner three points. With this win, Pune is now in the fifth position with 22 points while Mohun Bagan is just two points ahead at the fourth.

Mumbai FC look to win
On Wednesday, Mumbai FC go into fourth straight home match against Chirag United Kerala at the Balewadi Sports Complex, here with a chance to consolidate their position in the middle of the table. With No 12 placed team as their first opponent in the new year, the Khalid Jamil’s side would not have asked for a better draw to put their campaign on a recovery path.

“We would like to take full points in the bag,” said Mumbai FC manager Henry Picardo.

In another match, HAL Bangalore will take on Sporting Clube de Goa at home.
