NSS Hill Spring International ‘B’, Tardeo, knew that they faced a daunting task right from the kick-off. Not that their opponents were particularly intimidating, it was more to do with the fact that they were playing with two players less than their competitors, Indian Airlines, Santa Cruz, in the MSSA inter-school football U-12 Division III tournament, at Azad Maidan, on Tuesday. The reason for so few turning up for the game was, not surprisingly, exams.

Hill Spring could only keep their opponents at bay for the first five minutes of the game following which they could not regain parity in the score line. Continuous onslaughts and utter domination of possession yielded Indian Airlines a wind fall of goals that eventually stacked up to nine.

At no point did Indian Airlines get content or complacent and this uncompromising attitude helped them hold on to a clean sheet.
Hill Spring coach Christian Matthew was resolved to the fate of his side. “Most of my good players were missing today. Std VI students have a paper so only the Std V students could play today. We have played two games before, won the first and drew the other. So, we do have a good team,” said Matthew, who also plays for the MDFA Elite division side PIFA Colaba.

The player who stood out in the dominant Indian Airlines side was Rohan Jadhav. The left winger hit the back of the net five times for his team, an incredible tally in a single game for a midfielder. The sixth grader, although expressive on the field, is shy off it. “I am happy I scored these many goals. I don’t have a target for the season, I just want to help my team to win matches,” said the 11-year-old, Jadhav.
