The finals of the Madrid Open on May 16 will be shown in 3D in cinemas, the first time matches will broadcast to the public in the format outside the tournament grounds, organisers said on Wednesday.

The men's and women' title matches will be shown in theatres in the Spanish capital and in the cities of Barcelona and Malaga, they added.

"It's something I have never experienced before," Spain's former world number one Carlos Moya told a news conference. "I have seen films in 3D but seeing Rafa (Nadal) or (Roger) Federer on the big screen should be something spectacular."
