Arthur said conditions in the West Indies would be completely different from Australian conditions, and his players needed to be careful against them.
Australia coach Micky Arthur has warned his players not to be complacent against the West Indies, especially on their home turf.
Arthur said conditions in the West Indies would be completely different from Australian conditions, and his players needed to be careful against them.
With only six players in the 15-man Australian limited-overs squad having experienced cricket in the Caribbean before, the Australians have four full days to train and prepare before Friday's tour-opener first one-day international at St Vincent's Arnos Vale Cricket Ground.
"There are three things we really need to guard against. One is attitude and complacency, because we've come off a really good summer. So we need to guard against that," The Sydney Morning Herald quoted Arthur, as saying.
"We're in conditions that are very different to Australia. So that's something we're going to need to get used to very, very quickly," he said.
Arthur believes most of the West Indies' team is relatively unknown to them, and that poses much more of a danger to them.
"Then the third one is an unknown opposition. Our preparation time is going to be so important to us. We can't compromise on our preparation time," Arthur said.
While there are some familiar names among the Windies squad such as all rounders Dwayne Bravo and Kieron Pollard, rising stars such as Sunil Narine and Darren Bravo are lesser-known talents for the Australians
"An unknown opposition does present a lot more challenges. They can certainly hit you hard up front and we could be chasing our tails for the rest of the series," he said.
"We've got the week now to make sure in all disciplines we're right and ready to go come Friday," he added.
