Seriously, enough with the moral policing.
Team India's pace-bowling spearhead Mohammed Shami has been in the eye of a storm since Sunday evening for no apparent reason. He has had to face the wrath of moral police on social media for posting an image of himself and his wife Hasin Jahan. An image in which Jahan can be seen wearing a sleeveless dress.
Here's Shami's tweet with the image in question:
Soon after he posted the image, bigots took to social media to educate Shami on how a true Muslim should behave. How he should refrain from letting his wife wear such clothes, let alone share such images with the world.
Here's a sample of the insults Shami had to face:
BHai me a bhat aap se yehi kahunga aap apne bibi ko Islami tarike par rakho sami bhai allah ke liye
(I will tell you one thing brother, keep your wife under Islamic traditions for Allah)
Apki wife ka itan bada gala pehni hain, aapko sharam nahin ayi,
(You wife is wearing such a revealing dress, aren’t you ashamed?)
Sami tum muslim ho achhi tarah jante ho ki orot ko kaise rakha jata hai yah sobha nahi deta
(You are a Muslim and you know very well that how women should be kept. This kind of dressing won’t do)
Thankfully, sanity was restored to an extent and Shami did find support from some sections of the public. One of them wrote, "Bhai ye India hi h na??? Middle east k soch waale idiot yahaan kya kr rae?? Any1 who is having problem with mohd Shami or his family ....plz leave the country...there is high demand of ppl like u in middle east (This is India. Anyone who has a problem with Mohammed Shami or his family please leave the country)."
Even former India cricketer Mohammad Kaif came out in strong support of the troubled pacer. "The comments are really really Shameful. Support Mohammed Shami fully. There are much bigger issues in this country. Hope sense prevails," he said on Twitter.

But it didn't take long for the fiery fast-bowler to himself bowl a sharp bouncer at his detractors. Shami took to Twitter on Monday morning to share a piece of his mind and shut his trolls up for good. He said, "Very good morning. Har kisi ko jindagi mai mukam ni milta, kuch kismat wale hi hote hai jinhe ye nasib hota hai.!.jalteee rahooooo...(Not everyone can achieve something big in life. Only a few chosen ones have it in their destinies. Keep feeling jealous)."
He followed up that tweet with a second one which was the knowckout punch, "Ye dono meri zindage or life partner hai me acha trha janta hu kiya karna hai kiya nahi.hame apne andar dekhna chahiye ham kitna accha hai (My wife and my child are my life. I know very well what should be done and what shouldn't. We should look within ourselves to see how good we are)."
