Ahmedabad: Three fake sub-inspectors arrested by Ramol police

The Ramol police on Wednesday arrested three men from the CTM area on the charge of posing as police sub-inspectors and extorting money from vehicle owners on pretext of checking the vehicle.

The accused were identified as Ajgarali Shaiyad (40), Ahmedmiya Pathan (48) and Firoz Shaikh (34). All three were nabbed by people and later handed over to the Ramol police station.

As per police officials, on Wednesday afternoon at around 4.30 pm, the victim identified as Rakesh Patel (39) of Nava Vadaj area was stopped by the three accused near CTM Expressway on the pretext of checking his vehicle.

After a while, the accused started threating Patel and forcefully took Rs 20,000 cash from him. When the victim started shouting, people gathered at the spot and it was revealed that the trio were not police officials and was then held by the mob.

Inspector KS Dave of Ramol police station said, “In the year 2014 and 2018, Shaiyad and Shaikh were arrested for posing as a police officer and duping people, while Pathan was arrested in a chain-snatching case.” Dave also informed that there are 15 more people involved in the gang and use the same modus operandi to dupe people.

As per officials, when the state was on high alert, the city police had started checking the vehicle very strickly. 

Taking advantage of the situation, the accused started duping people on the outskirts of Ahmedabad.
