Gujarat Assembly: Suspension revoked, ‘no trust’ withdrawn

The tug of war between ruling party BJP and opposition Congress in assembly over the suspension of three Congress MLAs and no trust motion against speaker culminated into bonhomie on Tuesday.

Both the parties withdrew the proposals on compromising notes and the opposition initially withdrew the motion of no confidence against speaker Rajendra Trivedi, while the ruling party proposed to revoke the suspension of MLAs till the end of the ongoing session. Both the proposals were accepted unanimously by house.

The story began from unruly scenes in the Gujarat assembly created a fortnight back and on Tuesday, that transformed into bonhomie between ruling party and opposition. Leaders and members from both the sides vouched for the grace of the tradition of Gujarat assembly and agreed to end the chapter with the positive start.

Leader of opposition Paresh Dhanani raising a point of order immediately after question hour and said that he wished his deputy Shailesh Parmar to take back his motion of removal of the speaker through the no confidence, and appealed the ruling party to shorten the suspension of three Congress members till the end of the ongoing budget session. Parmar brought the proposal in house to withdraw the no-confidence motion against the speaker and then the deputy chief minister Nitin Patel brought the proposal to cut short the suspension of MLAs.

Two Congress MLAs Pratap Dudhat and Amrish Der were suspended for two years and Baldevji Thakor was suspended for a year after the incident of blow in house reported on March 14.
