Have fun at Twestival, but do volunteer

After a long wait, since the announcement in August, Twitter users in the city are all pumped up for Twestival, a mini-festival organised by Twitter users to raise money for the city-based Dream a Dream initiative.

The Bangalore stage is being organised by Hrish Thota who says the event will be held at Kyra this time around.

The first Twestival in the city, organised in February, was held at Opus. He also says they are expecting a much bigger turn-out this time around. “We have already managed to sell 60 tickets for the event. This time the event is being held for a local cause unlike last time when it was for charity,” he says.

“Also, this time the focus will be on volunteering for an effort rather than just raising money,” he adds.

So what has persuaded so many Bangaloreans to leave their computer for a while and reach there for a cause? It is not just the cause, but also the fact that they will be able to witnesses three performances while giving back something to society.

For one, this time around city-based folk-fusion band Swarathma will be performing and it will be followed by a ‘psychic entertainment’ show by Nakul Shenoy. Icing on the cake? Stand-up comedy by Papa CJ and Aron Kader.

Shenoy says he decided to be part of the event after reading about it on Twitter. “Initially I was helping Hrish to get bands to play at the event. Later on I realised I could contribute by performing myself,” he says.

Jishnu Dasgupta who is part of the band Swarathma, says that they decided to participate because of the cause.

“We were aware of Dream a Dream, as we know a few people who teach kids for them, so when Hrish approached us we agreed. Also we are pretty active on Twitter and had heard of the event beforehand,” he says. “We have something special in mind for Twestival, a few new songs,” he adds.
