Kannada dictionary for govt schools in Karnataka

The state government schools across Karnataka will soon get a volume of high quality Kannada dictionaries which have been published by the Kannada Sahitya Parishat recently. Kannada Sahitya Parishat president, Nallur Prasad, recently met the state primary and secondary education minister, Vishveswar Hegde Kageri, and discussed the issue.

“The minister was positive and we had sent an official proposal to the government on October 25,” said Nallur Prasad.

Re-printing and publishing the Kannada dictionary was a dream project for the Sahitya Parishat. After taking charge as president, Nallur Prasad decided to re-print the dictionary, and after a year’s hard work, it was finally released by chief minister BS Yeddyurappa on October 1. What makes it unique is it has 10,000 pages and eight volumes.

“Our objective is to see the volumes at all the school libraries in the state,” Nallur Prasad said.

Sources from the education department told DNA that even the department officials are happy with the proposal.

Reacting to this, the minister, Vishveshwar Hegde Kageri, said, “We discussed the issue a few days ago and I had asked them to submit an official proposal. Following our discussion, Parishat had sent a proposal recently and I will discuss the same with my department officials.”

According to Kageri, before accepting or approving the proposal, they need to examine the cost.

“We need to examine the cost involved in the project. Officials in department will be working on it soon,” Kageri said.

Currently there are nearly 45,000 primary and 3,500 government high schools operating in the state.
