Phobic over academics, 22-yr-old MBA student commits suicide

A 22-year-old student of I year Master of Business Adminstration (MBA) allegedly committed suicide on Wednesday night by hanging himself from a ceiling fan in his rented room on Ramanjineya Street, Hanumantnagar.

The deceased has been identified as Avinash, a student of Bangalore Institute of Technology and native of Tiptur.

Police said that the reason for the suicide was yet to be established. However, they said that he constantly nursed the fear of failing to perform well in academics. He had not fared well in class tests and was finding it difficult to focus on his studies, the police inspector from Hanumantnagar police station, BN Shamanna, said.

Avinash's father, revenue inspector Bhyrappa, confirmed that from his childhood, his son was perturbed over his academic performance. “Even though he was a bright student, he used to get unnecessarily tense over his studies,” he added.

In  his suicide note, Avinash merely wrote: “I am sorry, I am responsible for my death. Please cremate my body in my hometown Tiptur.”

Avinash is survived by his father, mother Kavitha and brother Tejaswi.
The suicide came to light after Avinash's friend and room-mate, Bhanuprakash, who returned from a Mysore trip, found his body hanging from the ceiling fan at 9.30 pm.

Bhanuprakash told the police that he had been to Mysore on November 23 and returned to his room at 9.30 pm on Wednesday. He called Avinash to open the door for more than 10 minutes and when the latter did not respond, he peeped into the window to find Avinash's body hanging from the fan.
