Social activist TJ Abraham, who filed a complaint before the Lokayukta court regarding alleged irregularities in the implementation of the Bangalore-Mysore Infrastructure Corridor (BMIC) project being constructed by Nandi Infrastructure Corridor Enterprises (NICE), was arrested on Thursday morning.

Deputy commissioner of police (east) TG Krishna Bhat said the Banaswadi police executed an arrest warrant which has pending against Abraham, who is also an advocate.

The police said in 2001 the Banaswadi police registered an assault case against Abraham, based on a complaint filed by his neighbour Rajan Chowdhary, an employee in a private firm. Both stayed in RS Palya, which comes under Banaswadi police station limits.

One day, a telephone wire inside Abraham’s house got disconnected and he suspected that Chowdhary was behind the incident. A verbal altercation ensued. After a heated argument, Chowdhary was climbing the steps to reach his home when Abraham allegedly attacked him with a cricket bat. Chowdhary filed a complaint with the police who registered a case against Abraham and arrested him. Abraham was released from jail on bail.

Later, Abraham allegedly did not attend the hearing of the case following which an arrest warrant was issued against him. The police executed it on Thursday and produced him before the 11th Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court (ACMM), which remanded him till December 4. Abraham filed a bail petition before the court which has been adjourned to Friday.

Meanwhile, Abraham alleged that he was arrested due to political pressure as he has been a social activist. It may be noted that based on a complaint filed by him before the Lokayukta court, the Lokayukta police registered an FIR against 30 persons, including former prime minister HD Deve Gowda, former chief ministers SM Krishna and BS Yeddyurappa, NICE managing director Ashok Kheny and some IAS officers in connection with alleged irregularities in implementing the BMIC project.
