Want to sell your petrol car? Hardly any buyers

With continually increasing price of petrol, the petrol-run cars are losing value and the second-hand models are fetching less price than earlier.

The number of buyers seeking second-hand petrol-run cars is decreasing even as the number of people willing to sell their petrol-run cars is increasing. With the supply exceeding demand, the price has dipped considerably. Mathew KM, a dealer of used cars, said owing to the frequent increase in petrol price, owners of these cars are selling it for much less than they are worth. The low price notwithstanding, he said today’s buyers are more inclined to buy diesel-run cars.

“The only thing buyers now ask for is, ‘Which diesel cars are available with you?’ In past three months, the sale of petrol cars has fallen,” said Md Sanaullah, a dealer of second-hand cars. He cited two diesel-run cars and said they are in demand because they give better mileage than other cars.

Even those who are buying new cars are going for diesel models. Sandeep, manager of a Chevrolet showroom, said the fifth hike in petrol price this year has brought down the sales of petrol-run cars by 15-20% in the past two months.

Dileep, manager of a Maruti Suzuki showroom, said the sale of their all diesel models has increased by 5-10% in the past three months in spite of the long waiting period.

Karthik, from the sales department of a Volkswagen dealership outlet, too, had the same observation. He said the sale of their diesel cars has increased by 20% in the past two months.
The data available with transport department confirm the new-found preference for diesel cars.

There has been just 1.52% increase in the number of petrol-run cars that have been registered as against 9.7% increase in the number of diesel-run cars.
