I want to stay true to my fans: Anish Sood

Anish Sood is one of the most revered names in the homegrown dance music scene. The prodigal DJ, music producer and songwriter, who has been the opening act for David Guetta thrice, talks about his album Future Perfect that releases this month, his favourite artistes, and more.

Musically, what is Future Perfect going to be like?

It will have a wide variety of styles. I’m known for remixes in electronic and house space whereas I have been writing music that leans towards pop and dance. When you listen to the record, you will see a natural progression as it starts picking up. There will be eight-odd tracks, including Starry Night featuring Zach Sorgen & Kelechi, Castles with Jonita Gandhi and Mountain Of A Man featuring LA singer, Trishes.

Artistes usually release singles these days. What’s prompted you to take the album route?

I wanted to showcase different genres in one package as opposed to singles disconnected from one another. Every artiste has the ambition of releasing an album. Also, these days streaming services charge you a fixed monthly subscription fee. So, monetarily, whether I give the listener one single or eight songs, it doesn’t cost him anything different. Hence, you’re not forced to put out all eight smash hits. You can also have songs that represent you as an artiste.

Any Bollywood songs coming up?

Not right now. Traditionally, in films, songs are twisted around to suit what the filmmakers want and it doesn’t sound like an EDM track. Many times, producers give a track as a reference and ask you to produce something exactly the same. Even if I do deliver such a song, I wouldn’t take credit for it because my fans expect a certain kind of sound that has my touch. So, at this point, I want to stay true to my fans who have helped me reach this point. However, things are turning around in Bollywood and I am open to right projects if someone thinks my music fits their film.

Who are your favourite dance music acts in India?

I like the duo Love Stories because they are versatile. Zaeden has been putting out amazing stuff and has changed his style a lot. He has also started singing of late, which is great. In Deep House and Techno, I like Arjun Vagale and B.L.O.T.
