'Masakali 2.0' featuring Sidharth Malhotra and Tara Sutaria received major backlash from audiences soon after the song released on the internet. Much like the netizens, the makers of the original song from 'Delhi 6' featuring Sonam Kapoor and Abhishek Bachchan, were critical of the newly-released version of the song.

Sonam herself went on to show support for her own song over Sidharth Malhotra and Tara Sutaria's version. Singer Mohit Chauhan also went on to slam the latest version of the song, questioning why did they have to use the term 'Masakali'.

'Delhi-6' director Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra and lyricist of the song Prasoon Joshi expressed their displeasure towards the Sidharth Malhotra-Tara Sutaria version in an interview with Mid-Day. This took place soon after A.R Rahman clearly stated that fans should rather appreciate the people who did not take shortcuts and put in real efforts towards the original song featuring Sonam and Abhishek.
