Shantipriya (also known as Shanthipriya) was born in Rangampeta village near Rajahmundry, Andhra Pradesh in a Telugu-speaking family, to Pattabiraman and M.Lakshmi. Shantipriya has an elder sister, Bhanupriya, who is a star in the South.

Before making a debut in Bollywood, Shantipriya made her debut in the 1987 Telugu release Kaboye Alludu. In the same year, she made her Tamil debut with Enga Ooru Pattukaran. She went on to star in more than 20 Telugu and Tamil movies. Shantipriya further gained recognition by playing Shakutala in the popular series Vishwamitra.

After making her debut with Akshay Kumar in Saugandh (1991), Shantipriya was seen in Mere Sajana Saath Nibhana, Phool Aur Angaar, Meherbaan, Veerta, and Ikke Pe Ikka.

At the age of 24, Shantipriya got married to actor Siddharth Ray, grandson of V. Shantaram, who was seen in Baazigar and Jaani Dushman. Shantipriya quit films in 1994. They became the parents of two sons. Sadly, Siddharth died of a heart attack in 2004, at the age of 40. She became a widow at the age of 36.

Shantipriya made her comeback in acting with television. From 2008-2011, she was seen in Mata Ki Chowki - Kalyug Mein Bhakti Ki Shakti. Then she was seen in Dwarkadheesh – Bhagwaan Shree Krishna (2011-2012). She also made her debut in OTT with Suniel Shetty, Vivek Oberoi's Dharavi Bank.
