Due to the coronavirus pandemic, no movies have been released during Republic Day weekend this year.
Republic Day 2021 is upon us and every year on and around January 26, several filmmakers release their big movies. However, this year, movie lovers can't catch a new movie at the theatre during the same week due to the coronavirus pandemic. Over the years, several films hit the big screens on Republic Day. Some proved to be blockbusters while others were a box office debacle.
Movies namely Agneepath, Bandit Queen, English Babu Desi Mem, Parzania, Rang De Basanti, Salaam-E-Ishq, Vijeta and many others released on the big screen on the occasion of Republic Day.

1. 'Agneepath' (2012)

Directed by Karan Malhotra, the film is the reboot of the 1990 film of the same name starring Amitabh Bachchan in the lead role. The 2012 release stars Hrithik Roshan, Priyanka Chopra Jonas, Sanjay Dutt and late Rishi Kapoor in the lead roles.
2. 'Bandit Queen' (1996)

Bandit Queen is a biopic on Phoolan Devi starring Seema Biswas in the titular role. The film is directed by Shekhar Kapur and went on to win National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Hindi.
3. 'English Babu Desi Mem' (1996)

English Babu Desi Mem stars Shah Rukh Khan, Sonali Bendre and Arhhan Singh in the lead roles. The film is directed by Praveen Nischol.
4. 'Parzania' (2007)

Rahul Dholakia directorial Parzania released in 2007 on Republic Day. The hard-hitting film based on 2002 communal riots in Gujarat stars Naseeruddin Shah and Sarika in the lead roles. Sarika and Rahul were bestowed with National Film Awards for Parzania.
5. 'Rang De Basanti' (2006)

It's been 15 years since Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra directorial Rang De Basanti released. The generation-awakening film has an ensemble cast including Aamir Khan, Siddharth, Atul Kulkarni, Soha Ali Khan, Sharman Joshi, Kunal Kapoor and British actor Alice Patten in the lead roles. The film won National Film Award for Best Popular Film.
6. 'Salaam-E-Ishq' (2007)

Nikkhil Advani's Salaam-E-Ishq is an anthology starring Salman Khan, Priyanka Chopra, Anil Kapoor, Juhi Chawla, Akshaye Khanna, Ayesha Takia, John Abraham, Vidya Balan, Govinda, Shannon Esra, Sohail Khan and Isha Koppikar in lead roles. The film, however, was a box office debacle.
7. 'Vijeta' (1996)

Sanjay Dutt and Raveena Tandon starrer Vijeta released in 1996 and is directed by K. Muralimohana Rao. The film was a Hindi remake of Telugu film Sathruvu.
