Deepika Padukone’s RK tattoo at the nape of her neck has got more mileage in recent years than Salman Khan’s blockbusters. Those who wish to comment on the ‘flippant’ nature of such writing should hold their peace because we live in cosmetic times! And, yes, a tattoo sported by a superstar is enough to send people into a tizzy.

Of course, for every superstar who loves wearing this permanent form of expression on their body, there are others like Shahid Kapoor, who categorically says that he will never get inked for his wife Mira or kids Misha and Zain.
When we had earlier asked Sasha about the same, he had quipped, “No, never. I love Misha and Mira. But I’m not the tattooing sort.” Like it is said, to each his own. To get a tattoo or not is a form of expression that works for some and simply doesn’t work for others.

Talking about DP’s ‘piece of art’, this now-you-see-it, now-you-don’t ink sketch that appears and disappears at Deepika’s will has caused quite a furore. This ‘damned’ tattoo that came into being when the gorgeous Bollywood actress was dating Ranbir Kapoor is definitely viewed by many as an aberration on her otherwise gorgeous form. But it was her personal choice to bring it on and since it is ‘permanent’ by nature, it continues to provide fodder for gossip. In fact, when the Padmaavat heroine started to date her now-husband Ranveer Singh, there was talk of her getting the K switched to an S. And, we are guessing only the leggy lass, Ranveer or her costume designers can tell us if it was modified by the slightest degree. However, when it was displayed even days before her wedding, it didn’t look like the K had fully ceased to be.

Saif Ali Khan, who has Kareena inscribed in Devnagri across his left forearm, had tears in his eyes when he was getting it done. Though his reason for getting it was to simply prove his unconditional love for his Begum, while talking about it today, Saif jokes, “I guess, it’s safer to get your kids’ names inked on yourself. It is more permanent and less subservient.”

Ajay Devgn has taken a cue from Saif, his Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior co-star. He has Nysa, (his daughter’s name) tattooed on his chest, next to the Lord Shiva sketch that is there. Later, he got his eight-year-old son, Yug’s name inked on his upper arm. There was a point when his wife, Kajol, had teased him about how he should get inked for her too. And he had told her in jest that he had no plans of doing that.

Akshay Kumar is more demonstrative that way. He has Tina (his wife’s name) inscribed on his left shoulder while his darling daughter Nitara’s name is on the right side. On his upper back is his son Aarav’s name. The Khiladi, of course, has no plans to add to his ink collection.

Celebrities like Arjun Rampal have played it safe and kept only their children’s monikers in permanent-ink forms on their body.
6. Sanjay Dutt

Sanjay Dutt has his parents’ names — Sunil and Nargis — besides a host of other exotic tattoos. Dutt had once admitted that he was ‘addicted to inks’.
7. Hrithik Roshan

Hrithik Roshan and Sussanne Khan got matching designs on their wrists. And according to the tattoo artist, neither of them had flinched or complained of any pain while getting it done.
8. Priyanka Chopra

Priyanka Chopra Jonas, who had earlier baulked at the idea of a tattoo, shared such a close bond with her father Dr Ashok Chopra that she got ‘Daddy’s li’l girl’ inscribed on the side of her right wrist.
