World Music Day special! Darshan Raval to Sunam Puri: Artistes share the melodies that motivate them

Zinda from Bhaag Milkha Bhaag gives me goosebumps whenever I hear it. It’s penned beautifully by Prasoon Joshi sir and never fails to motivate me. I think it’s one of the most exhilarating tracks to have come out in this decade.

You’re The Voice by Australian rocker John Farnham is a song that rouses you any day of the year. It’s the type of track that makes you want to get up and get things done. We love simple catchy music and its chorus has one of the biggest hooks in any power ballad. The chorus lyrics go, “You’re the voice, try and understand it / Make the noise and make it clear, oh, woah! We’re not gonna sit in silence/ We’re not gonna live with fear, oh, woah!”

Smile by Nat King Cole is a song that really speaks my philosophy. What better way to tell your feelings and beliefs than through a track? “If you smile through your fear and sorrow/Smile and maybe tomorrow/You’ll see the sun come shining through for you.” That’s exactly what we need to tell everyone on this World Music Day. There’s so much sadness, fear and angst all around. May be this would help someone get by a dark dull day.

Main Zindagi Ka Saath Nibhata Chala Gaya from Hum Dono (1961)  has taught me that no matter what happens in life, one must continue smiling and not worry about the consequences.

John Lennon’s Imagine has such a powerful message about living in a world without discrimination of any kind. Though, I think it should be played each day of the year and not just today because we really need to learn from its lyrics.

Believe in You, which is my composition. The track says that it’s important to understand the power of self-love and self-manifestation. If you believe in yourself, and stay true to yourself, anything is possible.
