After Tanushree Dutta accused Nana Patekar of sexual harassment on the sets of a film in 2008, several women have stepped out and started a #MeToo campaign by naming the perpetrators.
As the movement gains momentum, big names from the entertainment industry have been expposed, including that of Alok Nath, Rajat Kapoor, Sajid Khan, Vikas Bahl among others.
The one-year-old #MeToo movement, which started in Hollywood, had failed to take root in India, but finally, celebrities have found courage to speak up on the same, with the recent to share her experience is actor Ayushmann Khurrana's wife Tahira Kashyap.
In a long post shared on Instagram, Tahira opened up about her horrific #MeToo story that she faced during her childhood at the hands of a relative and also revealed how she was scared of physical touches when she had started dating her boyfriend and now husband, Ayushmann.
However, it was Ayushmann's patience and love that healed her. She went on to say that even after the birth of their first child "the memories of the torment still haunted me." She faced the ordeal for almost 20 years until she opened up about it to her husband and parents.
Her post read, "Often the closest people especially the relatives in your life (those whom everyone trusts) are the real creeps."
She further wrote, "When I see men giving a big push to this movement, I know the battle isn't lost. I plead to all women to come forth and communicate, have a dialogue and express."
She captioned the note as, "My #MeToo moment... wish I didn’t have one and neither did anyone. But glad we are speaking about it. Let’s have zero tolerance towards it. And let’s not question how long the victim took to speak. It took me around 20 years. Will it be held against me? #metoomovement#metoo #comeout #loveyourself#expressyourself #zerotolerance"
