Vikrant Massey's upcoming film The Sabarmati Report, set to release in August 2024, is in trouble following director Ranjan Chandel's decision to leave the project. There were rumors that Chandel was replaced by Tushar Hiranandani, known for directing the film Srikanth, due to disagreements with producer Ektaa Kapoor over creative matters.

While speaking to the Hindustan Times, Ranjan Chandel said the producers suggested adding some new ideas which he disagreed with, especially given the sensitive nature of the film's subject. He said, "I took this decision on my own to step back from the film. I shot the complete film but then there were few ideas by the makers which were not for reshoot but additions in the film. I didn't agree with those changes as the film deals with a sensitive subject. However the makers wanted them, so I decided to step back from it. There were these creative differences between me and the makers which I didn't agree with, and I couldn't make the film with those changes."

He added, "There are reports that the changes are being made after the film went to CBFC for certification and they suggested those changes and thus the film is getting postponed. However, that isn't true at all." According to a report by Peeping Moon, Ranjan was not in favor of reshooting and adding new scenes, leading to creative disagreements with the producers.

The Sabarmati Report revolves around the tragic events of the Godhra train burning incident, which took place on February 27, 2002. This incident occurred on the Sabarmati Express train near the Godhra railway station in Gujarat, claiming the lives of 59 Hindu pilgrims and karsevaks returning from Ayodhya. The incident sparked religious riots, though the exact cause remains disputed to this day.
