'Taj Mahal: An Eternal Love Story', starring Kabir Bedi, Sonya Jehan, Manisha Koirala, Arbaaz Khan, Vaquar Shaikh, Rahil Azam, and Pooja Batra, was made on a massive budget of Rs 50 crore. It broke the record of 'Devdas' as the most expensive Indian film ever made. The film was also released in Pakistan.

The director of the film Akbar Khan also had to incur losses due to the failure of 'Taj Mahal: An Eternal Love Story'. Reports state that the filmmaker tried to cover some of the losses suffered by the distributors which put further strain on him financially.
'Taj Mahal: An Eternal Love Story' was Akbar Khan's last theatrical release. He also accused Mukta Arts, the co-producers, of marketing the film badly and blamed them for sabotaging his film. Akbar Khan never recovered from this loss and never made another film. He did have plans to re-release the film, but they have not been realised as of June 2024.
