Mita Vashisht, who shared screen with Aamir Khan in Ghulam, opened up on her experience working with him and shared how his ‘Mr. Perfectionist’ tag got in the way of them getting along on set. She further talked about how their different working styles created an uneasy situation while shooting.

In an interview with Lallantop, Mita Vashisht talked about working with Aamir Khan and Ghulam and said, "Aamir and I are very different actors. He likes to plan everything. Ghulam was initially being directed by Mahesh Bhatt. During the first reading of the film, Mahesh told us that we will do this scene like this and I was like yes we can improvise it. Aamir looked at me and said, ‘Improvise.’ He didn’t like that word.”

She further recalled how she opposed Aamir Khan when he told her how to perform a scene and said, "There was a scene in the film in which he would take out money and give it to me. So he was telling me that when I do this, you do this. I said, ‘No. You do what you have to do, I will do what I have to do.’ He said, ‘How will I know what you are going to do?’ and I told him, ‘See me and react.’ He wanted everything to be fixed in advance and I was like, ‘Why should you tell me what to do?"

Using another scene as an example, Mita talked about the caste system prevalent in Hindi cinema, which is still there today, and how commercial stars perceive themselves as superior. She said, “In another scene, I am talking to him when I reached out and ruffled his hair. So, the first time I ruffled his hair, he didn’t like it. I immediately understood his mindset that, ‘Hath kaise laga dia mujh (How did she touch me?)’ He looked at Mahesh questioning my gesture but Mahesh took my side and said, ‘I don’t know what she did but it was beautiful.’ There was a difference between commercial actors and art cinema actors, especially during those days.” Mita also expressed that Aamir might not have felt bad about her touching his hair if she too was a commercial actor.

The actress further added that the film was delayed for a year because Aamir Khan popularity was low that time and when it got revived, they had to reshoot several scenes. She recalled, " As we were reshooting the same scene, I did not ruffle his hair as I had done before. When the scene was over, Aamir said, 'You didn’t do what you did last time.' I replied, 'Last time you didn’t like it.' He said, 'Please do it.' I agreed and said, 'Yes, now I’ll do it.' (Wo bhi sahi thi kyuki unka alag tradition hai) He was right in his own way as he has his own tradition. It is not his fault as he did not have the same experience earlier.”

Mita Vashisht was last seen in the series Kaala which proved to be a big hit and was appreciated by the audience. Aamir Khan on the other hand is gearing up for his next film Sitaare Zameen Par and is also producing Sunny Deol-starrer Lahore 1947.
