The crime thriller Mirzapur revolves around the power struggle in the Purvanchal region in Uttar Pradesh. After the latest season of the show was released last week after a wait of nearly four years, Shweta Tripathi and Rasika Dugal shared with DNA how their lives have changed after playing the characters of Golu and Beena, respectively. They also talked about the mixed responses the third season of Mirzapur has received.

Mirzapur began in 2018 with a roaring first season and its characters have stayed on with people even after six years and three seasons. Rasika Dugal stated her life has changed tremendously after Mirzapur. "Before the show, I don't think I had access to such a wide and loyal fan base. I totally enjoy how the audience of Mirzapur want to engage with the show and all its actors and characters, it's really lovely", the actress said. Shweta Tripathi added, "I think, after Mirzapur, we have become common names in Indian homes. When we go to the airport, we are asked about the next season from the security guard. We get a lot of love from the people around. I think, now after season three, people are a bit scared of Golu didi, which I enjoy."

While many people have loved the politics and character arcs in the third season, others have complained that the bhaukaal of first seaon is missing now. Rasika opined that the first season of each show has its own novelty value. She added, "In the first season, you meet new people, you are seeing new characters, and nobody is even trying to match that novelty. Subsequent seasons are meant to have different tragectories, they are supposed to take the characters in different directions. As an audience, you will have certain expectations that will be met and some that will not be met, that's bound to happen. I feel this form of engagement is also a form of connection. If I was not invested in something, why would I care to engage with it? All this (the mixed reactions) to me is a different way of engaging, but fair enough and valid enough, and I will take that also."

Shweta shared that it was a surprise for everyone how the first season was received so well. "With season 2 and season 3, people have huge expectations, but I am not saying that opinions are not valid. I am trying to understand myself that as an audience when I view it, there's a certain anxiety as well because we have waited for so long. And when you keep waiting, your brain start making its own connections and you start building expectations. And whenever those expectations are not met, you are bound to get disappointed. Every season will have its own heartbeat and its own taste. The more better we chew onto each and every episode, the more fun and taste we will have of that season", she concluded.

Apart from Shweta and Rasika, Mirzapur show also features Pankaj Tripathi, Ali Fazal, Anjumm Shharma, Vijay Varma, Harshita Gaur, Isha Talwar, Lilliput, Priyanshu Painyuli, Anangsha Biswas and Neha Sargam. The third season started streaming on July 5 on Prime Video.
