This actor who was once rejected by every actress became popular action hero, is called superstar despite giving flops.
Many outsiders come to Bollywood with dream in their eyes to become superstars like Shah Rukh Khan. Another actor, who was Shah Rukh’s contemporary, was rejected by every actress in the industry. However, he still emerged as a superstar.
The actor we are talking about made his place in Bollywood as an action hero and now despite giving no hits for last 17 years, he is still called a superstar. He is none other than Suniel Shetty.
Sunil Shetty started his career in Bollywood in 1992 at the age of 31 with Balwaan, opposite Divya Bharti. He faced rejection from heroines in Bollywood due to his dark complexion. The perception of dark-skinned protagonists by directors was different in the early '90s, resulting in numerous rejections. Despite the setbacks, his debut film Balwaan became a massive success, leading him to stardom.
Despite the film being a success, Suniel Shetty once recalled being written off by a critic. He said, “I was written off by one of the top critics who ruled the roost then and said that he can’t make it, he needs to go back to his Udupis, he needs to sell idlis again. It was personal and it hurt, I was angry also.”
However, despite all of this, he went on to become an action star. In the 1990s, he became one of the highest-paid actors in Bollywood. After this he maintained his stardom doing mutli-starrer films and even taking the role of a villain in films like Dhadkan, Jaani Dushman and more.
Since 2007 film Cash and Dus Kahaniyaan, Suniel Shetty has had no hits in Bollywood. All of his films including One Two Three, Daady Cool, De Dana Dan, No Problem to Thank You, all of his films failed to perform at the box office. However, he still lives an uber luxurious life and is called a superstar.
He runs his own production house Popcorn Entertainment Studios and also works in the real estate business. He also launched a men’s jewellery brand called MetaMan and reportedly invested about Rs 24 crore in it. According to reports he lives near Mukesh Ambani’s house and is reportedly worth over Rs 123 crore. Suniel Shetty will be next seen in the movie Hera Pheri 3 alongside Akshay Kumar and Paresh Rawal. The actor also has Welcome to the Jungle in the pipeline.
