Though a lot of writing has been done on the unusually high number of Indian-origin executives in Silicon Valley, only one Indian-American CEO—no, it's not Sundar Pichai or Satya Nadella—has made it into the top ten list of US CEO salaries. A report from C-Suite Comp lists Nikesh Arora, the CEO and chairman of Palo Alto Networks, as the tenth highest-earning CEO in the United States. On Monday, the data analytics company C-Suite Comp published its ranking of the highest-paid US CEOs.

On the basis of two metrics—"total compensation granted" in 2023 and "compensation actually paid"—two lists of the highest paid CEOs were published. Sundar Pichai, the American-Indian CEO of Google, was not included on either list. Nor did his Microsoft counterpart, Satya Nadella, despite the incredible year the tech giant had made possible by OpenAI.

Conversely, Palo Alto Networks' Nikesh Arora was on both lists. With $151.4 million in earnings, he came in at number four on the list of the "Highest earning CEOs in the US by total compensation granted in 2023." With an annual salary of $266.4 million, Arora completed the list of the ten "Highest earning CEOs in the US by compensation actually paid in 2023." Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla, topped the list with an astounding $1.4 billion in earnings in 2023. Only Alexander Karp, the CEO of Palantir Technologies, exceeded the $1 billion threshold.

In 2018, Nikesh Arora became Palo Alto Networks' CEO. He has worked for SoftBank Group and Google during his illustrious career.

Arora, 56, attended Delhi's Air Force Public School to finish his education. He is the son of an Indian Air Force officer. He graduated with a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from Banaras Hindu University's Institute of Technology (now IIT-BHU). In addition, he has an MSc from Boston College and an MBA from Northeastern University.

Arora held senior leadership positions at Google for ten years. He left in order to become the president and chief operating officer of SoftBank Group in 2014.
