In this article, we will tell you about one such person, who is now a billionaire. His name is Bharat Desai. He co-founded the IT consulting and outsourcing company Syntel. 

Desai started Syntel with his wife Neerja Sethi with just USD 2,000 from their apartment in Troy, Michigan in 1980. He was the chairman of the company. The 71-year-old is an Indian-origin American billionaire. According to Forbes, his real-time net worth is USD 1.6 billion (Rs 13420 crore). He is currently at the 2020th spot on Forbes billionaire's list. His source of wealth includes IT consulting, self-made and others. 

Born in Kenya and raised in India, Desai came to the US in 1976 as a programmer for Tata. He met Neerja while working for the IT firm Tata Consultancy Services (TCS). The duo founded Syntel in 1980. In its first year, Syntel generated just USD 30,000 in sales. In 2018, French IT firm Atos SE bought Syntel for USD 3.4 billion. Desai is an IIT alumnus who completed his bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from IIT Bombay. Desai also holds an MBA in finance from the University of Michigan.
