The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) today dismissed rumours being spread in certain sections of social media about the institution closing down certain commercial banks on Wednesday.

Finance Secretary of India, Rajeev Kumar, said that 'mischevious rumors' were being spread on Social Media about 'RBI closing some banks.'
He said that there was no question of closing down public sector banks as 'they are articles of faith.'
'Rather govt is strengthening PSBs with reforms&infusion of capital to better serve its customers.' He added.
Rumours were being spread on social media about nine banks that would be closed down by RBI on Wednesday.
The messages urged the people to withdraw money from 9 banks which include Corporation Bank, UCO Bank, IDBI, Bank of Maharashtra, Andhra Bank and Indian Overseas Bank.
