The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020 was shifted to the UAE due to the coronavirus pandemic. Despite the strict COVID-19 protocols, the Indian cash-rich tournament went on smoothly and saw numerous stars rise to various occasions.

Not just experienced players, but even the uncapped ones made a great impact on their franchises. However, just before the auction of the IPL 2021, many teams have released players who did not have much impact for their sides.

Talking about the players who failed last year, there were plenty. Due to these players, their teams had to suffer. However, the few who failed to perform in the IPL, they made a good impact in the Big Bash League (BBL).

Here is the list of 5 players who failed to perform in IPL 2020 but did well in BBL 2020-21:

1. Alex Carey

Alex Carey
1/5

Just after being released by Delhi Capitals (DC), Alex Carey smashed 425 runs in 13 innings in the BBL 10. At a strike rate of 122.13, he has a century to his name this year. The Australian keeper found his form after scoring 32 runs off 29 balls in the only season he played.

Carey had got a chance after Rishabh Pant's injury in the playing eleven. At a strike rate of 110.34, it was never enough to cement his place in the playing eleven.

He had to warm the benches for most of the season and was also released from the squad before the 2021 auctions.

2. Adam Zampa

Adam Zampa
2/5

While Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) did not release Adam Zampa, the spinner did not make much of an impact for the men in red. The side did manage to reach the playoffs last season but were knocked out by the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH).

Known for a long time, the team has been overly-dependent on Virat Kohli and ABD. So to reduce their workload, the side brought in Adam Zampa.

The leg-spinner, who was roped in by the management as an option for Chahal, could not make an impact as he took only 2 wickets with an economy rate of 8.36.

However, when it came to BBL, Zampa took 19 wickets in 12 matches at an excellent economy rate of 7.35 and had the best bowling figure of 5-17.

3. Glenn Maxwell

Glenn Maxwell
3/5

The Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) had the most destructive batting lineup starting with their skipper KL Rahul and opener Mayak Agarwal. They were, however, unable to make it to the playoffs despite a superb comeback during the final phase of the tournament.

So before moving to another auction, the management decided to let go of one of their most prolific batsmen, Glenn Maxwell. The Australian all-rounder had a horrible IPL season last year.

During the 13th edition, the batsman scored only 108 runs off 106 balls. He did not even smash a single six in the entire season. With the ball, Maxwell had a decent outing with an economy rate of 8.04.

However, the form of the player was back when he became a vital contributor to Australia’s victory over India during the ODI series. Apart from that, he scored 379 runs in 13 innings in BBL 2020-21 at a strike rate of 143.56 with the highest score of 71.

4. Josh Philippe

Josh Philippe
4/5

Josh Philippe was picked by RCB and was included in the playing eleven regularly during the initial phases of the tournament.

Philippe opened the batting with Aaron Finch, however, the duo failed to make promising starts the opening failure meant pressure building on the middle order batsmen.

During the last season, Philippe scored only 78 runs with a strike rate of 101.29. Subsequently, he was dropped and could not make a return. With that, the management decided to release him ahead of the 2021 IPL auction.

However, when it came to BBL, he had a turnaround tournament and was a member of the champion team. In 16 innings, Josh scored 508 runs with an impressive strike rate of 149.41. He had an average of 31.75, which means because of him, the Sixers had terrific starts.

5. Daniel Sams

Daniel Sams
5/5

Daniel Sams who was roped in by the Delhi Capitals (DC) was brought in as the third seamer for Ricky Ponting’s squad.

He was to help Rabada and Anrich in the bowling attack. However, for Sams, he was included in the playing eleven for three matches only. During those three matches, he had a poor economy rate of 9.5 and was unable to pick up a wicket.

However, Sams had a brilliant BBL season and took 11 wickets in 9 matches with an economy rate of 8.51. His average was at an average of 23.70 in the Big Bash League.
