Happy Birthday Jasprit Bumrah: India's ultimate yorker king and bowling spearhead

Jasprit Bumrah had already made heads turn during his stint with Gujarat where he emerged as the highest wicket-taker for the side and also helped them in Ranji Trophy glory. His exploits in the Ranji Trophy, Syed Mushtaq Ali as well as for Mumbai Indians in IPL 2013 meant that it would only be a matter of time before he would burst onto the scene for India. After three years of toil and hard work, Bumrah made his debut in Sydney against Australia and he impressed with figures of 2/40. In the subsequent T20Is against Australia, Bumrah showed his death overs mettle and also nailed the yorkers at will. For a run-up and bowling action as unorthodox as Jasprit Bumrah, it felt that he would only be a T20I specialist. However, he defied all those critics and put up some magnificent performances in the Tests. He picked up five-wicket hauls in South Africa and England and whenever he produced those performances, India would win a game and have something to smile on the tour. However, his brilliance shone through in Australia where he took 21 wickets, including nine in the Boxing Day Test in Melbourne as India won after 37 years at the MCG. Bumrah's burst helped India become the first Asian nation to win a Test series in Australia. Jasprit Bumrah was spotted at an early age by Mumbai Indians and he has been nothing short of a revelation for the franchise. In his debut season, he showed his audacity by removing Virat Kohli and then giving AB de Villiers a send-off. His death bowling and his ability to nail the yorker has helped Mumbai Indians come out of jail many times. He is the designated death overs bowler and the Super Overs bowler as he manages to keep his calm under pressure with a simple plan - bowl yorkers. Trained by Lasith Malinga, the first yorker king, Bumrah has been instumental in the five IPL titles for Mumbai Indians which they have won in 2013, 2015, 2017, 2019 and 2020. Jasprit Bumrah's arrival in the Indian cricket team has made their bowling attack more potent. With the likes of Mohammed Shami, Ishant Sharma and Umesh Yadav in the side in Tests, the Indian pace bowling is now intimidating for opponents. This very thought would have been preposterous a few years ago but the quartet of Bumrah, Ishant, Shami and Umesh have been instrumental in India winning Tests on a regular basis. In Australia, it was this quartet which helped India win the series 2-1. Bumrah is the designated pace spearhead and he will be key once again if India are to win in Australia. Jasprit Bumrah has been instrumental in India becoming one of the top sides in all formats in the last couple of years. He has had his moments of downtime as well, with the most prominent being the no-ball in the final of the 2017 ICC Champions Trophy against Pakistan. His no-ball gave Fakhar Zaman a repreive as the batsman scored a century and Pakistan went on to win the contest by 180 runs. Bumrah has also been plagued by injuries in the last couple of years but these are small blips in an otherwise brilliant career. Happy Birthday, Jasprit Bumrah.
