In Pics: Rishabh Pant’s maiden Test call; 5 things to know about his white-jersey career

Rishabh Pant, who plays for Delhi in the domestic circuit, made his First-Class in the Ranji Trophy 2015-16. His maiden First-Class match was against Bengal where he also kept wickets. He scored a 28 and top-scored for Delhi in the final innings with 57 runs off 71 balls. PC: Twitter

From 22 First-Class games so far, Pant has scored 1,625 runs including four centuries and six fifties, and has clinched 63 catches and seven stumpings. PC: PTI

Pant registered his highest First-Class score in just second year into the format. He scored 308 against Maharashtra at the iconic Wankhede Stadium during the Ranji Trophy 2016-17. He scored the triple century at an age of 19 years and 12 days and became the third youngstest to score a First-Class triple-century after Javed Miandad (17 years and 311 days) and Wasim Jaffer (18 years and 265 days). Pant has played two First-Class matches for India A so far in England. One against West Indies A, where he scored 3 and a match-winning knock of 68 off 139 balls in India’s chase of 321 runs. In the same match, Pant also grabbed seven catches behind the wickets. His second game is still underway against England Lions, where he has batted once, and scoring 58 off 111 balls. PC: Twitter

The Delhi cricketer has been roped in the squad for the first three Tests as a backup wicketkeeper, while Dinesh Karthik will be the first choice. Provided the latter will have to miss a Test for some reason, Pant will become India’s 291^st Test cricketer, the previous debutant was Jasprit Bumrah. PC: PTI
