The left-arm googly bowler Kuldeep Yadav had to warm the benches again as he was left out of the playing XI in favour of the left-arm orthodox spinner in Shahbaz Nadeem, who was a last-minute selection after Axar Patel got injured. Kuldeep, who was once regarded as their No 1 spinner outside India, didn't get a single game in Australia and his ouster from the Chennai Test puzzled everyone. Kuldeep, who has played 6 Tests, has taken 24 wickets and has experience of bowling both in Indian and overseas conditions. Rohit Sharma scored 6 and 12 in the two innings, while Ajinkya Rahane scored 1 and 0 in the two innings. India's top-order failure and particularly these two batsmen not scoring runs has put enormous pressure on the likes of Cheteshwar Pujara and Virat Kohli and Rishabh Pant, to actively look for runs and grind it out in the middle. Kohli also got out early in the first innings to Dom Bess' incoming delivery and Shubman Gill to gave his wicket away after looking good for his 29. The 38-year old Burnley born pacer, who has taken 600-plus wickets made the ball talk and automatically answered to those who suggested the experienced pacer wouldn't be effective in sub-continent conditions at his pace. But, James Anderson was up to the task. Skipper Joe Root gave the ball after the first hour when Shubman Gill had started looking comfortable and Virat Kohli, was slowly getting into his own.
