Prime Minister Narendra Modi graciously hosted the victorious Indian cricket team, winners of the T20 World Cup 2024, at his residence on Thursday. Led by Rohit Sharma, the team emerged triumphant after defeating South Africa in a thrilling final match. However, the joy of the victory was tempered by the unexpected retirement announcements of key players Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Ravindra Jadeja from T20I cricket.

Despite the bittersweet moment, the team was welcomed with great fanfare upon their return to New Delhi after facing delays in Barbados due to inclement weather. The players had the opportunity to engage in a candid and meaningful conversation with Prime Minister Modi during their visit to his residence, which lasted until 1 PM.

Among the players present was Suryakumar Yadav, who has garnered attention for a social media post from seven years ago that has resurfaced amidst the nationwide celebrations of the team's victory.

"Thank you sir @narendramodi Ji for this step. Very happy to be a part of @swachhbharat . May b a selfie someday in real if I get lucky. Haha," sky posted in 2017.

During a visit to 7, Lok Kalyan Marg on Thursday, BCCI President Roger Binny and Secretary Jay Shah presented Prime Minister Narendra Modi with a special NAMO India jersey. The Indian team, led by head coach Rahul Dravid, had the opportunity to interact with PM Modi during the visit. Additionally, the team proudly displayed the T20 World Cup trophy to the Prime Minister.

"The triumphant Indian Cricket Team met with the Honourable Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modiji, at his official residence today upon arrival. Sir, we extend our heartfelt gratitude to you for your inspiring words and the invaluable support you have provided to #TeamIndia," BCCI wrote on 'X' after the meeting with PM Modi.

After meeting with Prime Minister Modi, the Indian team departed for Mumbai, where the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) organized a 1 km victory parade from Nariman Point to Wankhede Stadium. A small felicitation ceremony was held at the stadium to honor the team's achievement.

BCCI Secretary Jay Shah, who had attended the final match against South Africa in Barbados, presented the Indian team with a cash prize of Rs 125 crore for their victory in the ICC tournament, marking their first win in over a decade.
