Bumrah revealed his favorite captain, and surprisingly, it wasn't Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, or MS Dhoni.
India's star fast bowler, Jasprit Bumrah, recently revealed his favorite Indian captain. Despite having played under the leadership of MS Dhoni, Virat Kohli, and Rohit Sharma, Bumrah surprised many by not naming any of them. In a light-hearted manner, Bumrah humorously mentioned that he himself has had the opportunity to lead India on a few occasions, making himself his favorite captain.
Bumrah also praised Rohit Sharma for his exceptional leadership of Team India in recent years. Following his outstanding performance in the T20 World Cup, Bumrah was given a well-deserved rest during the ODI and T20I series against Sri Lanka.
"See, my favourite captain is me because I have captained a few games. Obviously, there are great captains, but I will take my name I am my favourite captain," Bumrah told Indian Express.
Jasprit Bumrah assumed the role of captain for the Indian cricket team on July 1, 2022, during the rescheduled 5th Test against England in Birmingham. Prior to this, he had the opportunity to lead the Men in Blue in two T20Is against Ireland in Dublin the previous year.
Following his captaincy debut in Birmingham, Bumrah unfortunately suffered a back injury that required surgery. After nearly a year of recovery, he made a triumphant return to lead India in the T20I series. Currently, Bumrah serves as the vice-captain of India's Test team under the leadership of Rohit Sharma.
Bumrah has expressed admiration for Rohit Sharma's captaincy, noting how he has effectively nurtured a supportive environment for younger players within the team.
"In the recent England series, when the youngsters came, Rohit made the atmosphere very comfortable; he took extra effort; he will take them out; he will talk to them about the game; he will try and push them to take the responsibility, as the youngsters should think all are equally important; there is no senior or junior," Bumrah said.
He commended Rohit for his exceptional leadership skills as a captain who prioritizes the needs of his bowlers. Additionally, he acknowledged Kohli as the team's de facto leader, despite not holding the official title of captain.
"A captain needs to have empathy towards bowlers and Rohit Sharma is one of the few captains who has empathy for bowlers".
"Virat Kohli is still a leader in the team, he might not be the captain".
