Virat Kohli scores 6000 test runs, second fastest Indian to reach the milestone

Virat Kohli became the 10th Indian player to reach 6000 runs in Test cricket. Indian captain Kohli went past the mark during India’s first innings of the fourth Test against England on Friday.

Kohli brought up his 6000th run with a boundary towards third man. He became the second fastest Indian to reach the milestone in terms of innings after Sunil Gavaskar. Virat Kohli took 119 innings to reach 6000 runs, just two more than Gavaskar’s 117.

Congratulating the Indian skipper, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) took to the official Twitter handle and applauded the swashbuckling batsman for his achievement.

"Another day, another milestone for captain @imVkohli. 6K and counting in Tests #TeamIndia #ENGvIND," they wrote.

Kohli, who is in a phenomenal form in the ongoing Test series, has scored a total of 440 runs, including two centuries, in the first three matches.

Virat scored 46 runs on Friday before falling to Sam Curran.

In terms of time, Kohli is the quickest Indian to the landmark, overtaking Rahul Dravid. Kohli took seven years and 70 days, whereas Dravid required seven years and 175 days. The time span Kohli has taken to go from 5000 to 6000 Test is only eight months, seven Tests and 14 innings. He got to 5000 runs in December last year during the third and final Test against Sri Lanka at home.

Overall, Kohli is the ninth quickest to the mark. He also became the 10th leading run-scorer for India in Test. The list is led by Sachin Tendulkar with 15921 runs.
