She claims to have BA, MA, LLB, and LLM degrees, but on being asked, failed to write something in English
A 40-year-old woman, who was recently arrested for allegedly trying to extort Rs 7 crore from Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP KC Patel, will travel to Muzaffarnagar along with a Delhi Police team to ascertain whether her law degree is fake or not. The woman had earlier claimed that she was a lawyer.
Meanwhile, the police are trying to identify the exact number of people involved in the honey-trap gang, run by this woman and her associates.
Special Commissioner of Police (New Delhi) Mukesh Kumar Meena said on Wednesday that a raid was carried out at the woman's residence in Indirapuram, from where documents and videos were recovered. Investigating officers revealed that apart from hidden CCTV cameras, audio files were also recovered from her home. She had a hidden camera attached to her bag as well.
According to the woman, she went to pick up the BJP MP from the airport, who later raped her at her Ghaziabad residence. The MP, however, has claimed the woman herself had called him six months ago. He also mentioned the name of another woman in his complaint.
During interrogation, the woman told the police that she moved to Delhi around five years ago to prepare for the Rajasthan Public services exam. She also appeared for the preliminary test of the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC). "She claims she has BA, MA (English), MA (Political Science), LLB, and LLM degrees. But when she was asked to write some things in English, she failed to do so. We will verify her claims once we reach Muzaffarnagar," an officer privy to the investigation said.
"It appears that the woman and her gang members had made it their business. Names of some victims have been identified. The woman also changed her statements in the previous cases that she registered. The gang targetted high-profile people and extortion was their only source of income," Meena said.
The police suspect the woman is a part of a bigger syndicate. The gang's modus operandi was simple. It would initially get friendly with people and then zero down on a possible target to blackmail and extort money from. Around five to six people are said to be a part of the gang.
According to the police, in 2014, the woman had registered a molestation case at the Safdarjung Enclave police station against an Uttarakhand minister. During the course of investigation of that case, the woman changed her statement several times. Then she also registered a case of car theft at the Shakarpur police station. Due to some controversy, however, the car was not handed over to her.
