1.Meritorious since childhood
Garima did her schooling from Khargone's Saraswati Vidya Mandir. She was intelligent and smart since childhood. Her elder sister, Preeti Agarwal also cleared the Indian Postal Service exam in 2013. Garima has succeeded in every field she has stepped into, from school life to UPSC Civil Services.
2.Graduated from IIT Hyderabad
Garima Agarwal is currently posted as Assistant District Magistrate for training in Telangana. Before appearing for the UPSC Civil Services Examination, Garima did her graduation from IIT Hyderabad. After this, she did an internship in Germany.
3.Became IPS officer in her first attempt
In her first attempt, Garima secured the 240th rank in the UPSC CSE exam. However, she wasn’t satisfied and started preparing again. In her second attempt, she secured the 40th rank and fulfilled her dream of becoming an IAS officer in the year 2018. She completed her training at LBS Academy, Mussoorie in 2019-2020.
4.Fewer resources, more revision
Describing her success mantra, Garima gave many invaluable tips to the candidates preparing for UPSC Civil Services. According to Garima, preparation of preliminary exam, main exam and interview should be done together and not separately.
According to Garima, the same questions may appear in UPSC Pre and main exams. That is why revision is necessary. Success is not achieved by collecting study material only, but one has to study it. Mock tests should be given. Along with this, increase the speed by practising answer writing.
5.Target Pre First
According to Garima, first of all, the pre-exam should be targeted. However, one should prepare for both exams simultaneously. Because later, there will be no time to prepare for the main exam. But the focus must be on the former.
Keep checking your revision through mock tests. Course material is available in sufficient quantity on the Internet. In an interview, Garima said, “I myself used to practice separately in the subjects in which I used to get fewer marks.”
6.Don't be discouraged, be patient
While giving tips to the aspirants preparing for the Civil Services Examination, IAS Garima said that the most important thing to crack this exam is ‘patience and consistency. Keep in touch with people from whom you get inspiration and positive energy. It is best to stay away from people with negative thoughts. Failure or success is both in our mind, if we are determined, we can achieve anything.
