Dr Rajendra Bharud is a living example of such a person for the people who doubt the strength and determination of those who dare to fight against poverty in order to achieve their dreams.
He once said, “Poverty is what we know from birth. It is so deeply present within every person in the village that no one even knows whether they are poor or illiterate. Everyone is happy living on what they have, and on the resources of nature.”

Surprised everyone by becoming an IAS
Dr Rajendra Bharud is from Samode village, Sakri taluka in Maharashtra. After completing his MBBS, Dr Rajendra surprised everyone when he returned to his village and the reason will amaze you. He was not only a doctor but an IAS officer when he came back home.
About Dr Rajendra Bharud
Dr Rajendra Bharud was born on January 7, 1988 in Samode village. His father had died before his birth. His family didn’t even have a single photograph of his father because of poor financial conditions. Bharud's mother used to sell liquor for a living and the whole family used to live in a small hut made of sugarcane leaves.
Made to sip liquor at the age of 3
While talking to a newspaper, Rajendra Bharud said that I used to cry because of hunger at the age of three. Drinkers were annoyed because of me. Some of them used to put drops of alcohol in my mouth to silence me. Instead of milk, my grandmother used to make me drink wine so that hunger would go away to some extent and I would be silent and because of all this, he got addicted to alcohol. Even when he had a cold or cough, he was made to drink alcohol as medicine.
Studied outside home
Rajendra said, he used to sit on the platform outside his home and study there. Sometimes, people who came to drink used to give him some extra money to bring snacks. From which, he bought few books. He studied hard and secured 95% in class 10th exam and got 90% in class 12th.
Medical entrance in 2006
In 2006, he appeared for medical entrance and cleared the exam. He holds a medical degree from Mumbai's KEM Hospital and Seth GS Medical College. Not only this, Rajendra Bharud got the 'Best Student Award' at Collector KEM Hospital and Seth GS Medical College across Maharashtra. He became an inspiration to the Department of Public Health and the district.
Cleared UPSC in first attempt
In his final year of MBBS, he decided to appear for UPSC (Union Public Service Commission) exam. It was challenging as he was studying for two exams at that time. Also, he was an intern. You will be surprised to know that he appeared for UPSC and cleared the exam on his very first attempt. Of course, his mother had no idea about UPSC.
When he went back after completing MBBS, his mother was more than happy to know that his son had now become a civil officer.
The reason why he became doctor
Rajendra says, “I dreamed of becoming a doctor since childhood so that I can help others. But, as I grew up, I realized that in order to help people, I need to educate them and provide them with better life opportunities. To do this I had to become a civil servant. "
Collector of Nandurbar
He was trained in Mussoorie for few years. After which, Rajendra was posted as Assistant Collector and Project Officer in the Nanded district in the year 2015. In 2017, he was posted as Chief Executive Officer of Solapur and became the collector of Nandurbar in July 2018.
Wrote a book
Rajendra has also written a Marathi book “Mee Ek Swapna Pahil” in the year 2014. In the book, he talked about his struggle, journey and the sacrifice of his mother in order raise three children. Rajendra Bharud is not just an inspiration but also an example for those who give excuses and criticize their luck. Currently, he lives with his mom, wife and children in a government bungalow.
