It was Tata Group's IT arm Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) which supported his child prodigy S Chandrasekar's development with resources early on.
Born September 25, 1990, Chandrasekar Subramanian is a child prodigy and a senior machine learning (ML) scientist. He grabbed the headlines in early 2000s when he became the youngest postgraduate emerging out of the prestigious Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) aged just 17. Chandrasekar had already completed his BE from Anna University by 15 when he joined IIT Madras after scoring 99.32 in Graduate Aptitude Test. He topped his MTech class at IIT Madras and earned his PG degree with flying colours in 2008. It was Tata Group's IT arm Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) which supported his development with resources early on.
Hailing from Tirunelveli in Tamil Nadu, Chandasekar’s mother worked for Canara Bank while his father was an auditor. He was ahead of his class from early childhood. His teachers would complain that a young Chandasekar would finish his work quicker than classmates leading to disruption. It was a family friend who first noticed Chandrasekar’s unusual academic prowess and suggested enrolling him in an international certificate programme. He studied at Bell's Matriculation School, Tirunelveli.
Chandrasekar became the youngest Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer and Cisco Certified Network Associate at 11. In 2002, he was appointed honorary director of Technology and Information Forecasting and Assessment Council, Center of Relevance and Excellence in network engineering. Chandrasekar later completed a Masters of Science degree in Financial Economics from University of Oxford in 2012. He rejoined IIT Madras in 2020 for PhD in Artificial Intelligence (Computer Science).
In his career which started at an early age, he worked as a researcher and scientist for Tata Consultancy Services and as Program Manager and Researcher for Microsoft more recently, according to his LinkedIn profile. He also had a small internship with the American IT giant in 2006. He has also been associated with McKinsey & Company and Oliver Wyman. He once revealed in an interview that some of the persons that inspire him include TCS veteran Ramadorai of TCS, industrialist Ratan Tata, Infosys founder Narayana Murthy and Indian cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar.
