Shiva is my style icon: Kailash Kher

Singer Kailash Kher’s Sufi tunes are synonymous with love. And just before Valentine’s Day, the singer has come up with his new album titled Kailasa Rangeele. Excerpts:

Tell us about Kailasa Rangeele?
This is our fourth album. Kailasa means heavenly and it is also my band’s name with Naresh and Paresh. The album celebrates love and romance in its purest form. All the 11 songs in the album showcase the different facets of love. It’s got all the colours (rang) of love, hence the name.
 
What do you think works best for you as a musician?
I think my forte is the simplicity of my music. I put forth the deepest message through simple expressions — something that most people find difficult.
 
Was it a calculated decision to release the album just before Valentine’s Day?
(Laughs) No, no, it was purely coincidental. For me, everyday is a Valentine’s Day. I celebrate it every moment. Mohabbat aisi cheez hai jiske liye samay nirdharit nahi hona chahiye (love shouldn’t be restricted by time or day). And as goes the timing, the album was to be released last year, but it has been delayed by over a year now.
 
You got actor Amitabh Bachchan to release your album and also to sing in it…
Yes, it was very heartening. He’s narrated some five-six lines. I just went to Amitji and requested him, and fortunately he just smiled and said ‘main aapko aashirwaad dene aaunga’. The song is called Dharti se jannat ka nazara and besides Amitji, my two-year-old son Kabir has also sung in it.
 
You inspire so many with your music and your humble lifestyle. But what inspires you?
I observe things, I observe people, I observe trees. So that inspires me so much. I believe in God and He guides me right.
 
Are you a Shiva bhakt?
Bhagwan Shiv is my style icon. His carefree persona and his crazy lifestyle inspires me a lot. I don’t do ideal worship but I worship nature. And Shiva inspires me towards the true living.
