Was acting always your first choice?
I guess so. I am a theatre guy even today. I could have been an artist as well, but I guess I am happy with my choice.
Did your theatre experience help you when you entered movies?
It did actually. The stage plays that I was a part of made me open up as an actor and grasp a lot of things that help develop a character. Though there is a lot of difference in theatre and cinema. However I love both.
Thirty years of acting in films? Tell us about the experience?
It has been the most enriching experience. I have worked with some of the most fabulous people in cinema and gotten an opportunity to learn a lot from them. But I don’t want to sound like I am making my lifetime achievement speech here. I have a lot more to do.

Absolutely! Don’t you like Captain Barbossa?
Tell us about your upcoming films?
In my upcoming movie I play a town drunk… yes drunk again. It is a fun, fantastic and a very interesting movie. You will also see me in Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides and The Eye of the Storm soon.
Have you ever been to India?
Not yet… but someday for sure I will come visiting and see one of my favourite director Shekhar Kapur. I can’t forget that for my role as Walsingham in Shekhar’s Elizabeth, I received a BAFTA nomination for Best Supporting Actor!
Would you like to work in an Indian film?
Of course yes. I am every open for all good scripts and roles whether it is a French movie or Asian.
